AI chat (BYOK)
An AI chat panel that answers visitor questions from your own documentation, powered by your own AI provider key — OwnDocs ships the integration, not a hosted AI service.
- This is BYOK: bring your own key. OwnDocs never hosts, meters, or bills AI usage — you connect your own Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible, or Ollama account, and any usage cost is between you and that provider.
- The chat endpoint answers by retrieving from the site’s own search index first, so its answers are grounded in your actual docs rather than general web knowledge.
- Supports Anthropic, any OpenAI-compatible gateway (including OpenRouter), and Ollama (local or cloud) — set an API key and, for non-Anthropic providers, a base URL and model ID.
- Citations the assistant gives back are validated against a schema before they reach the page, so a malformed or hallucinated citation cannot slip through silently.
